Since 2002, Coope Santa Elena began to offer an innovative tour for people interested in an agricultural experience. This tour has diversified the local tourism opportunities and, at the same time, created a new source of income for the cooperatives, as well as for the producers.
Participate in a guided tour to a Coffee Farm in Monteverde where you will see the whole process of coffee, from the farm to your cup. Coffee sold under the Monteverde label is produced on small farms in the Monteverde area, averaging of 1 ha of coffee production per farm. First stop on the tour is the coffee plantation. You will learn how coffee grows and is harvested and the role agriculture has played in the development of Monteverde. At the Processing Mill "Beneficio" you will see how the process of the bean goes through, from the receiving and measuring, the washing to drying naturally in the sun. At the roaster you can try a freshly brewed coffee while learning about the roasting process and how the different roasts are distinctive. The Monteverde Coffee Tour is an educational activity that allows you to see and understand how local coffee production works. The participants get to visit some of the farms, the Mill, and lastly the Café Monteverde Coffee Shop. During the harvest season the visitors also have the opportunity to participate in the picking of coffee cherries.
